Bible Verses Anxiety And The Blessings Of Sparrow Faith

By Alison Wilcox

Anxiety is natural. The pressures of modern life such as bills, work, relationships and sickness all provide food for worrying at the personal level. Added to that are global pressures; these include things like depletion of the ozone layer, crime and the ever-present threat of war. Wouldn't it be great if there were a one-size-fits-all type of tranquilizer, a drug to take away all anxieties about the mainstays of life. Well, there is. It has been available for 3,500 years. It is the Bible. Reading Bible verses anxiety and being faithful to the Word are the keys to joy, peace and emotional security.

The book of Leviticus, the third one in the Bible, is one of the first to show the path to serenity. In Chapter 26, verses 6 to 10, God assures his chosen people that he will make their home a country of peace, with no fear and no war. His people would increase in numbers, prosper and have all their earthly needs met.

One of the best known Bible verses about anxiety is the 23rd Psalm, written by King David, the young shepherd who slew the giant, Goliath, and a direct ancestor of Jesus Christ. In the psalm, David writes that in the presence of the Lord, who is always with him, there is nothing to fear. All He asks in return is for obedience to His commandments. In a later Psalm (94), David says that God calms him down and cheers him up whenever he feels anxious.

Proverbs chapter 12, verse 5, says that worry weighs us down while a cheerful word can lift us up. In Ecclesiastes chapter 11, (verse 10), we are advised to remove sorrow from our hearts.

There are many examples of Bible verses anxiety contained in the New Testament, as well. Matthew, chapter 5, contains another well-known and widely cited passage, the Beatitudes. In these, Jesus blesses the mourners, the meek and the merciful. The mourners will find comfort, the meek will inherit the earth and the merciful will be blessed with mercy.

In the next chapter of Matthew (verses 25-26) is found the passage about sparrow faith. The carefree bird does not work for a living nor does it worry about its appearance, and yet all its physical needs are met. How much more valuable to the Lord is Man. Put God's Kingdom first, and all other things will follow.

The Holy Trinity is composed of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Many people attribute the title of Holy Ghost to the spirit of Jesus as he ascends into Heaven, never to be seen again until His return. In a little-known verse in the Book of John, chapter 14, verses 15-17, Jesus promises to send us a Friend, the Holy Spirit, who will remain on earth among the people. Among His roles are to protect Man from distress and to offer peace.

These are just a few of the many Bible verses anxiety. In return, God asks only that we love our neighbors and follow His commandments. Sounds like a win-win situation.
